childhood from a purely clinical standpoint. We think the author has admirably succeeded in his aim and object. The fact that the work is written in a more or less colloquial style adds to, rather than detracts from, its interest. The book abounds in sound practical teaching, and the parts dealing with treatment, which is laid special stress on, are not the least valuable portions of the work. The opening lecture on the clinical examination of sick children, is especially full of most useful hints and advice. The whole subject has been approached in a thoroughly practical and sound manner, and clearly demonstrates that the author not only has a thorough practical knowledge of his subject, but has also the much rarer gift of being able to impart that knowledge in a clear
